YASUTOKO’S KEEP SIBLING RIVALRY IN-LINE

Takeshi Outduels Brother Eito for Gold in Vert at X Games X

Los Angeles, Calif. – Things always seem to come down to the Yasutoko brothers in the Aggressive In-Line Skate Vert competition. And Saturday’s final at X Games X was no different.

This time it was younger brother Takeshi (Kobe City, Japan) who claimed his second ever gold after landing a double Viking flip for the first time for a score of 95.75. Older brother Eito had a chance to better the score with the final run of the day that included a 1080 California roll, but fell short and finished in third just behind Marco de Santi (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

“I’m so happy,” said Takeshi. “My first run was perfect for me. Before the competition I was so nervous and after my first run I was still nervous because my brother still had to go.”

Lost in all of the sibling rivalry was de Santi’s near-flawless second run that included a flat rocket, double flat spin and double backflip that pushed him in the silver medal spot (his first ever) with a score of 92.75 – just .25 ahead of Eito.

“My first run was not that good and I was waiting to pull my tricks together and I did it,” de Santi said.

Eito improved his career X Games medal count to six – which includes three golds – despite not being able to best his younger brother.

“Takeshi was so good in practice before this competition,” Eito said. “I am very happy for him (that) he did it. But watch out for next year. I just can’t beat him without a new trick.”

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, X Games X is the world’s premier action sports competition featuring more than 150 of the world’s best athletes competing in: Aggressive In-line Skate, Bike Stunt, Moto X, Skateboard, Surfing and Wakeboard. The event is being held August 5-8, 2004 in Los Angeles with live primetime daily coverage on ESPN and ABC Sports. SportsCenter, ESPN’s flagship daily news program, will also report LIVE from X Games X from August 5-7 for the first time in X Gameshistory.
