August 3, 2004 ***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Athletes Announced for ESPN X Games X Press Event Who: Several of the top names competing in X Games X will be available for one-on-one interviews. Athletes scheduled to participate in the event include: Cara-Beth Burnside (Skateboard) is the foremost pioneer of women's competitive skateboarding. She began competing in professional men's contests in 1991 and helped put women's professional skateboarding on the map. In 2003 Cara-Beth was named Transworld Skateboarding’s Female Skateboarder of the Year. She will be competing in Women’s Skateboard Vert. Fabiola da Silva (Aggressive In-Line Skate) is the most decorated woman in X Games Aggressive In-Line Skate history. She competes in Vert with the men and is currently serving as the spokesperson for Play Your Way, an ESPN initiative promoting youth fitness. Brian Deegan (Moto X) is the Metal Mulisha mastermind and one of the most influential riders in freestyle motocross history. Has more X Games medals (nine) than any other rider and was the first to land the 360 in a competition. At X Games X, he is competing in all four Moto X disciplines: Freestyle, Best Trick Step Up and SuperMoto. Travis Pastrana (Moto X) has never been defeated in a Moto X Freestyle competition at X Games. Pastrana perfected the 360 last year on his way to the gold and for X Games X will be competing in Best Trick, Freestyle and SuperMoto. Ryan Sheckler (Skateboard) is the youngest skateboarder in X Games history (13 years) to win gold last year at X Games IX, in the Skateboard Park competition. Now thought of as the next generation of skateboarding, Sheckler will be competing in the Skateboard Street competition and is Kelly Slater (Surfing) is easily the most recognizable name in surfing. He led the East Coast Team to a gold medal last year at X Games IX in the inaugural Surfing The Game™ competition. Danny Way (Skateboard) is known as one of the most influential skateboarders in history for “launching” the Big Air phenomenon via his Mega Ramp design, which can be seen in his DC Shoes video. He will be competing in Skateboard Big Air and Vert Best Trick. ESPN X Games Executive Director Jack Wienert and General Manager Chris Stiepock will also be on hand for media interviews. (Arriving after 4 pm) Dave Mirra (Bike Stunt) currently holds the records for most gold medals in X Games history. Mirra will compete in Bike Stunt Park and Vert. Mirra has been all-over mainstream America, with his most recent as a poster-boy for milk. Where: City View Terrace in STAPLES Center on the Event Concourse (EC) Level (take the press elevators to this level and take a left). There will be a view of the Skateboard Big Air ramp, the Bike Stunt Park course and the entire X Fest area.
