SNOWBOARD – SUPERPIPE

SuperPipe – 24 men and 20 women

After its recent success and popularity at last year’s Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, snowboarding halfpipe competitions are drawing bigger crowds than ever and continue to dazzle fans all over the globe. The X Games SuperPipe should be an impressive display that will include several of the Olympians from Salt Lake City. Using a new format this year, qualifiers will determine the top ten that will compete in a best-of-two-run final competition. Riding on a halfpipe that is 54-feet wide, 16-feet high and 500-feet long, athletes continue to develop styles and skills that push up the level of competition every year. Last year’s winner in the men’s competition, J.J. Thomas, put together a solid run including a 900, a fully flexed tailgrab and a switch McTwist. In the women’s competition, Kelly Clark owned the show. Her score of 94.00 was twelve points higher than the next closest competitor.
